Data migration is where most ERP go-lives are won or lost. A new system with the wrong opening balances, duplicate customers or missing history loses the trust of its users on day one. We treat migration as a project in its own right, with its own plan, rehearsals and sign-off, not a task squeezed in before go-live.

How we approach it

1. Scope and mapping. What moves, what stays behind and what is archived, and how every source field maps to IFS.
2. Cleansing. Duplicates, gaps and inconsistencies found and fixed at source, before they are loaded.
3. Migration jobs. Built with IFS's own data migration tooling where it fits, and with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL where the volumes or transformations call for it.
4. Trial loads. Repeated loads into a test environment, each one faster and cleaner than the last.
5. Reconciliation. Record counts, values and balances checked against the source and signed off by the people who own the data.
6. Cutover. A timed plan, rehearsed end to end before the real weekend, with a fallback agreed in advance.

Why our Oracle depth matters

IFS runs on Oracle Database, and every environment we support sits on it. When a load is slow, a constraint fails or a reconciliation does not balance, we can see what is happening below the application as well as in it, which is usually where the answer is.

Which tools do you use for IFS data migration?

IFS's own data migration tooling where it fits, Oracle SQL and PL/SQL for large volumes or complex transformations, and our own tools, V2 Attach for documents and media and V2 MagicRows for configuration rows.

How many trial loads do we need?

Enough that the final rehearsal runs cleanly from start to finish in the time the cutover allows. That is usually several, with at least one full rehearsal of the cutover itself.

Can you migrate attachments and documents into IFS?

Yes. V2 Attach loads documents and media into IFS Cloud in bulk from a spreadsheet, one row per file, with every row validated against IFS before anything is written.
